Aveda Institute isn’t your everyday salon as it doubles as a school for aspiring stylists and artists. You will find the full range of salon services available, however pricing is 30-40% off what you might pay as you will be among the first of (hopefully!) many clients for these students. Toka Salon*, Penn Quarter
A gracious sponsor to many events in-house and around DC, Toka offers amazing salon and spa services and is home to the ever popular colorist Nuri Yurt. Enjoy a cut and color or a full day of pampering, but expect to pay for the level of service you’ll receive.
Trim Salon, Adams Morgan
Want a beer? No, Trim is not a bar, but upon entering Trim you are immediately offered a drink – which includes beer! No, it’s not to make you think your cut looks better, but it is a nice touch. Trim’s specialty is coloring and runs slightly above average in terms of pricing, but the quality is definitely not lacking – for men and women.
Salon Blu, Logan Circle
Salon Blu, a L’Oreal Professional Elite salon, is a full service hair salon specializing in cuts and color for men and women. The two owners are extremely popular for many reasons, mainly for the local, genuine feel to their salon. Men’s cuts begin at $35 and women’s at $60. Highlights start at $85-$105. Allergic to phones? One80 Salon, Midtown
The luxurious One80 open layout, including the color bar, puts you right in the middle of the salon experience with the community of stylists. One80 even provides wireless access for you work ADD’ers and features Phyto, a botanical, luxury based line to keep your hair feeling and looking healthy. Women’s cuts begin at $90 and highlights range from $120-$160, but regulars can sign up for a rewards program to save.
PR at Partners*, Midtown/Downtown/Everywhere!
With 14 locations around DC, you may think that the service and style will get watered down. This is not true as PR at Partners holds their stylists to the utmost standards. You can even view every stylist from every location – and even some of their work – on PR’s website. Andre Chreky, Midtown
Need a blow dry in the morning or before a big date at night? Andre Chreky to the rescue! Tuesday – Fridays, you can stop in anytime between 7am (people work that early?) and 8pm for that last minute touch up. Saturdays are even open 7-7 as well. Women’s cuts run $50-$75 and highlights run $150+. Andre Chreky also offers acclaimed bridal and wedding day services – on and offsite.
INARI Salon and Spa, Midtown
A new kid on the block, INARI Salon & Spa offers complete hair, nail, and waxing services. Their Yuko Japenese Straightening and Xtreme Lashes specialties coupled with experienced and popular stylists, make this trendy upscale salon a great fit for the somewhat lacking McPherson Square area. Women’s cuts begin at $65 and highlights $90-$120. INARI carries Kevin Murphy and Schwarzkopf Professional products.
Urban Style Lab, Dupont
Their motto about says it all: “We are not a spa; we concentrate solely on creating brilliant hair.” The cement floors and exposed brick walls back it up as Urban Style Lab caters to the fashion forward hipsters, fashionistas, and progressive Washingtonians. Cuts begin at $75 for ladies ($45 for men), and highlights/coloring run $110-$160.
Salon Cielo*, Dupont/Tysons/Bethesda
Salon Cielo is a great stop for those looking for an easy to find, and get into, hair and nail salon. Services are wide ranging and affordable with cuts running you $40-$65 and highlights $90-$120. Get a special discount through July on Cibu products, view the website for more info.
Christophe Salon*, Dupont Circle
This no frills, high end salon is all business on great stylists producing great results for customers. With five locations and popular clientele across the country, including Beverly Hills and Las Vegas, Christophe Salon has set a standard for premium salon services. Don’t be scared away by the someone tight space, or the price tag of $110, Christophe has stayed in business for a reason.
VSL Hair Design, Dupont Circle
A lively, fun salon, VSL is a great stop for affordable, yet good cuts. Men’s & Women’s start at $30 (students $26) and highlights range from $65-$95 (note blow dry is extra for hair services). VSL’s mani & pedi’s are a steal in DC.
Corte Salon, U Street
Having just opened in trendy U Street serving men and women, CORTE Salon provides a full line of individually tailored hair care services from a group of highly skilled and diverse professionals. A very chill (seriously, shorts and sweats approved) and relaxed salon providing hair, nail, and waxing services. Not the biggest known salon in DC, but I’m guessing their customers like it just like that so they can continue to get such great service at a steal of a price.
